The 2nd Singapore Swimming Association (SSA) Inter-School Synchronised Swimming Competition organised by the Singapore Swimming Association was held on 24 and 25 March 2011. This year, Methodist Girls’ School (Primary) won the overall Primary Division champion and Singapore Chinese Girls’ School (Secondary) clinched the overall Secondary Division championship title. Both schools have defended their respective titles for the second consecutive year. About 100 girls participated in this annual inter-school competition in solo, duet and team events. With their colourful costumes and elaborate make-up, the girls have added much vibrancy to the event at the Co-Curricular Activities Branch’s swimming pool. The girls synchronised their routines to all genres of music, from the classical to electronic pop. When they were showcasing their routines to the judges and supporters, they exhibited true sportsmanship as they maintained a great sense of camaraderie among their teammates and competitors. It was truly a delightful day witnessing the girls enjoying the adrenaline rush from competing with their counterparts in the hopes of bringing glory to their schools.

5th SNSSC – Post Event

The 5th Singapore National Synchronised Swimming Championships was held from 28 to 30 May at Toa Payoh Swimming Complex. This was an annual synchronised swimming championship for all local clubs in Singapore and this year, there were three foreign teams from Indonesia participating.

One of the highlights of the championships is the team who represented Singapore in the Japan Open Championships in May 2010. They were entered in the team events and undoubtedly, they emerged champions of the team events, beating the Indonesian teams.

In their elaborate make up and carefully-sequined costumes, all the girls were ready to impress the judges with their fanciful routines. This was the routine from the U12 team from one of the affiliates.

Essentially, synchronised swimming is a sport which requires dedication and passion from the girls. The three-day competition concluded with the prize giving ceremony where Chupa Chups’ lollipops and Beautex tissues were also given to the synchronised swimmers. It was definitely a memorable event where the girls in their elaborate swimsuits, performed their routines in synch with classical music or catchy pop songs as they were cheered on by their mates.

There was great camaraderie among the swimmers and the girls had a whole lot of fun even as they were representing their clubs in the hopes of winning glory. This is true sportsmanship!

It was really heartening to have parents coming up to us and telling us how great the interschool competition was and how it provided an avenue for their children to come together as a school team and compete with other schools.

For those who are wondering what synchro is all about and how did the event go, here’s a sneak preview! Don’t worry, we will definitely follow with more pictures!
